Mother’s Kitchen Melbourne

Mother’s Kitchen in Melbourne began in November 2011.

Since October 2016 we have joined the Darebin Community Canteen in Preston and serve lunch every last Saturday of the month. The Darebin Community Canteen is a collaboration between the Anglican Parish of Jika Jika, Secondbite, the Darebin Council and Mother’s Kitchen.  It was established to address food insecurity in the Darebin area and relies on the contribution of volunteers to run. As well as a free nutritious lunch, a variety of fresh produce is provided for people to take home after lunch.

When: Last Saturday each month – lunchtime.

How it is run?

Volunteers are involved  in preparing, cooking, serving and cleaning. The meal plan is usually discussed through email one week before the serving day. We are always looking for more volunteers.

How do I volunteer?

To offer your help with serving, cooking a meal, or to make further enquiries, please email [email protected]

How else can I help?

If you would like to support this worthwhile service but cannot volunteer in a physical sense, then tax deductible donations to Amrita Australia Limited can be made online. Funds are used to cover the cost of ingredients and incidental expenses in running the program.

Selfless Service (Seva)

Every Saturday 10 00 am – 04 00 pm

Amma has given us a wonderful property to develop and maintain.

All year people have been helping during the week and on Saturdays, preparing the hall and buildings for use and beautifying and maintaining the whole property.

The cooler months are the busiest time in the garden with pruning, weed control, transplanting, disease control, edging and mulch removal. Much of this work is light, so there is something for everyone to do.

If you are able to contribute some/part of your Saturdays, please come between 10am and 4pm. Wednesdays are also a possibility for garden seva, weather permitting.

Your seva contributions are greatly valued and appreciated!

Peace Prayer

Om Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu

May all the beings in all the worlds be happy

The purpose of this project is to chant the Peace Prayer as many times as possible as an offering to Amma on her next Australian Tour. We will offer this tally to Amma as a present from her Australian children.

Your monthly tallies can be emailed to [email protected] before the 21st of each month. Any amount large or small would be most welcome.

Please clearly state whether your tally is in malas or repetitions. One mala (108 peace chants) only takes five minutes to complete.

The words for the Peace prayer are: “Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu” (May all the beings in all the worlds be happy).

(Check the Latest Newsletter for the current count.)

The Shanti Tree Project

The Melbourne committee would like to invite all to participate in a special sponsorship project pertaining to establishing a symbolic Shanti tree. The tree will symbolize the prayer for peace for all beings in the world. It is made locally in Melbourne from recycled-metal and will be featured in the main hall. All funds from this giving tree concept will be directed to the Melbourne ashram development fund.

The Shanti tree will have 54 leaves, and the sponsorship amount for each leaf is $1,000.00. Each sponsor (or his/her nominee) will be entitled to:

  1. Have his/her initials inscribed on a leaf (up to two letters);
  2. A Special Ganesh Homa which will be undertaken at the ashram.
Ganesh Homa

Ganesh HomaFor positive vibrations in the house, when starting new ventures such as a new job, or generally to remove obstacles.

In India it is customary for important events to start with a prayer to Shri Ganesha, as the elephant-faced god is considered the remover of obstacles.
